S&T Continues Its Legacy of Supporting The Colby Community

The sponsorship of two REDLG loans provides valuable financing for local hotel construction

Colby, KS (October 24,  2023) – S&T, a staple in Western Kansas’ telecommunications landscape, has reaffirmed its commitment to developing local infrastructure by sponsoring two Rural Economic Development Loan & Grant (REDLG) loans. These low-interest loans will significantly contribute to the growth of the Colby community by enabling the construction of two new hotels.

Wooden Inc., owned by Mike Woofter and Charles & Sheryl Denny, has been awarded a Rural Economic Development Loan & Grant, known as a “REDLG” loan, for the new construction of a Holiday Inn Express. A second REDLG loan was awarded to WWS Inc., owned by Mike & Jennifer Woofter, Jayson & Tara Woofter, and Terry & Teresa Stupka, for the construction of a new Comfort Inn & Suites. Both hotels will consist of four stories and will be located just east of the City Limits Convention Center in Colby, KS. Completion of the projects is planned for fall 2024 or early 2025.

“We appreciate S&T. I know USDA was also involved in the process. We contacted other utilities that could do REDLG loans, but they were not as  cooperative and helpful. We called S&T, and they said absolutely. The help we received from S&T during the application and approval process was fast, efficient, and friendly, and really got the job done.” “We think it is a win for the Colby community,” stated Mike Woofter. “We appreciate the community efforts S&T does on everything.” Mike went on to say, “With the interest rates at the current levels right now, this is a tremendous help and will be used wisely.”  “I would recommend the REDLG loan program. It is an excellent resource for funding the growth of our communities. S&T has been great to work with.”
